Guaranteed Ways to Make Any Dinner Party A Laugh

If you haven’t seen your friends in a while thanks to the pandemic, then it is probably time for well overdue catchup. If you haven’t had the chance to talk for a while, then you will want to avoid going somewhere like the cinema or somewhere loud like a pub or a club.

A great way to sit down is by having a sit-down dinner. This way you will have plenty of time to chat and will you be able to get to know what everyone has been up to since you last met up.

Though the idea of a dinner party sounds incredibly exciting, if you haven’t seen your friends or family for a while, you may be worried about the event falling flat. Sometimes it can be awkward to act as though nothing has changed if you haven’t seen someone for a while and you may experience annoying and awkward silences that leave you feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

What you want more than anything is for everyone to have a good time and leave with smiles on their faces, but this result isn’t always guaranteed. Here are some guaranteed ways to make any dinner party a laugh.

Play Some Funny Games

Small talk can often feel so fake and uncomfortable and a great way to avoid small talk is by getting entertainment started really fast. For any dinner party, a really easy thing that you can do is prepare some fun games to play.

I would recommend that you only set up games that you can play while sitting down, as nobody wants to get up and get active after they have been eating. There are plenty of fun games that you can play while sitting down which will get everyone in a great mood.

A popular dinner party game that is bound to heighten moods is Cards Against Humanity. In this game, you have to give the funniest answer possible to a question or a scenario. The person that wins is the person that collects the most black cards and this game is guaranteed to get everyone in a great mood as it is close to impossible to play it without laughing.

As well as some fun games, you can also play some games that will let you get to know what your friends have been up to since you last saw them. For example, you could play party classics like never have I ever or the finger game. This will be a great way to catch up with your friends.

You could also start some competitive games and test what your friends know. If you get a little prize ready, you could do a quiz and ask your guests trivia about pop culture or other topics like current affairs or sports.

Make Cocktails

A surefire way to ensure that everyone at your dinner party is in a good mood is by supplying them with alcohol. Nobody can be in a bad mood when they are drunk and a few alcoholic beverages will get everyone talking and everyone ready to chat.

Instead of making the cocktails before everyone arrives, you can get all of your guests involved in the process. People will be more than happy to help you make the cocktails and people will be incredibly eager to show off any mixing skills that they may have.

If you remember, you could also put together a cocktail menu of all of your friend’s favorite cocktails. They will appreciate the personal touch and it will likely bring back memories of when they last had the cocktail, which they can talk and joke about.

If you have some sober friends coming to your dinner party, there is no need to worry. They will also want to feel involved in the cocktail making and so you can just put together some mocktails for them. Once again, they will appreciate all of the thought that you have put into it and they will be happy to be involved in the creation, even if they cannot get drunk like everyone else.

Make sure that you are a good host

As a host, it is your job to set the general tone of the evening and make sure that everyone is having a good time. If you are not in a good mood and you are feeling awkward, then your guess will pick up on that and they will replicate the mood that you are putting across.

Before your dinner party starts, make sure that you are not feeling stressed and that you have had plenty of rest in preparation for hosting. You want to stay upbeat the entire night, as this will make sure that your guests are also upbeat and are in a great mood. Being a host is not something that comes easy to everyone, but if you are the one hosting the dinner party, then it is likely it comes easy to you.

Battle of the Beers: Which Drink Does Australia Love Most?

We have all seen them. Those annoying adverts that constantly inform us that Fosters is Australia’s favorite beer. Due to how long these adverts have graced our television screens, we have all been conditioned to think that Australians drink Fosters with every meal, but this really isn’t the case. In fact, most Australians hate that they have gained this reputation and despise Fosters as a drink. Due to this fact, we have decided to set the record straight and let the world know which beers Australia actually drinks. Here is a list of all of the beers that Australia loves.

Balter

Balter is one of the most popular beers in Australia. It is not made for casual drinking as it has a higher percentage than most of the beers available on the market, coming in at over 8% this beer packs a serious punch. It is loved all over Australia due to its citrus flavors and fast working effects.  It is rare that you will find a drink that is delicious and extremely alcoholic so there is no wonder why this drink has become so popular.

Hahn Super Dry

This beer has become so popular in Australia due to its delicious taste and low carb content. Australia is a hot country which means Australians need to make sure they constantly have their summer bodies, which means a beer that won’t make them gain weight is extremely popular. If you hire a catering service for any party or event then it is more than likely that the drink that they will provide will be Hahn as it is well known and loved by almost everyone in Australia. If you are yet to try Hahn then it is advised that you do.

Victoria Beer

If you are an Australian then you will instantly recognize the famous green can that Victoria Beer comes in. It is one of the most popular beers in all of Australia. This is partly due to how inexpensive it is, but also because it has been a staple drink in Australia for decades.  It’s not known for its taste,  but for a lot of people, the taste doesn’t really matter too much if it is getting you drunk. Victoria Beer is also used for much more than just a casual drink, in fact, Australia has used its beloved beer to make another signature drink. This drink is a Vicky bomb and can be found at any house party as a popular shot drink.

Tooheys

Tooheys has been a popular drink in Australia for over one hundred years and can be found at any bar or convenience store. Tooheys is one of those drinks where it is considered a cardinal sin to drink it warm, so be sure that you let you can chill before you sit back for a sip. This beer is incredibly light and is perfect for the Australian lifestyle. If you are someone who isn’t a big fan of drinking but enjoys the social element of a daytime drink with friends, Tooheys is a great option due to its fruity taste and lightness.

Little Creatures

Little creatures may have a western aesthetic, but the brand has only been around since the year 2000. For the two decades that it has graced Australia with its delicious taste, it has been loved and bought quite often in bulk. This beer appeals to the older generation and has a much loved classic beer flavor.  This beer had humble beginnings, starting in a small operation on the coast, but now it is beloved by all of Australia.

Pirate Life Pale Ale

Last but not least,  one of Australia’s most loved beers is Pirate Life Pale Ale. Many think that Pirate Life Pale Ale helped to define the well-known taste of beer that is loved all over Australia and many use it as a comparison to new beers to determine whether or not it tastes good.

So there you have it. You can now crush any misconceptions that you previously had regarding Australia’s taste in beer and maybe even see what all of the fuss is about and try one for yourself.

These States are Imposing Stricter Health And Safety Regulations

The world of food has always been one that has required detailed and strong regulations surrounding health and safety. The equipment in kitchens is powerful and potentially dangerous. Not to mention the risks associated with bad food. Sickness, diseases, and physical injury.

And as our understanding of biology and food science improves, so too do our rules and regulations surrounding health and safety in the food sector. To this end, a few of the biggest states in the USA are changing their regulations, making them stricter. All of this is set to take effect from the start of 2021.

Handling Pests

The first new move is in relation to the pest control sector. It follows on from the new announcement that Pest Control is now an essential service with the USA. Due to this change, pest control firms like http://www.positivepest.net/ are able to operate on longer hours and with increased efficiency.

This change meant the regulations around the pest control schemes within the foodservice industry could change. Starting from 2021, all restaurants and foodservice establishments have to get regular anti-pest checks and fit specialized anti-pest security measures.

This change was lead by New York and backed up by Washington and Connecticut. These three states have seen a sharp increase in pest numbers due to climate change and increased population. But it is predicted that every state will follow on with this regulation change in due course.

COOSH Changes

COOSH is the certification all food service establishments must follow in terms of chemical storage and usage. Industrial cleaning chemicals are dangerous and need to be handled with extreme care for both the sake of those using it and the customers. It is only the owners of a restaurant that need to go and get their COOSH qualification, but it up to them to train their staff, install proper storage and signage, and provide adequate PPE.

Starting in 2021, some states are introducing a refresher course that must be taken every 6 months. It will be the responsibility of the owner to make sure they go to these courses. They also have to bring along two members of their staff along to make sure they are also well versed in the usage of the different chemicals.

As an addendum, every restaurant also has to undergo a COOSH inspection every two years. This inspection is separate from the random health and safety checks and is simply to make sure their COOSH storage and usage is up to scratch.

Medical Training

It is required that every restaurant has a member of staff on-site that is trained in First Aide. Which is fantastic. But a few states are looking to change it up. The idea is that all restaurants will need to make sure more than half their staff are trained in First Aide, and more than half of the staff on a particular shift also need to be trained in it.

To support this, a lot of states are putting more funding into various First Aide programs, improving the quality of the education provided and the qualification. This will mean restaurants do not need to go for a top-up as often, saving them money in the long run and improving the quality of the First Aide they can provide.

The USA takes safety very seriously, and these changes are just further proof of that. These regulations, while they can be annoying to deal with and tiresome, improve the safety for everyone. Both customers and staff alike.

Brewing Beer with Ginger

Brewing beer with Ginger

Ginger beer is a hot trend today, thanks to the health benefits and the different taste it offers. Ginger gives a sweet yet spicy taste to the beer and is a great option for making cocktails. There are a lot of ways to make ginger beer at home, the one listed below is a simple recipe that takes only 3 days to make. But since it is not fermented for a long time it is not rich in probiotic but still offers various health benefits.

To brew your beer at home with ginger follow the easy steps below:

  • Peel fresh ginger and grate it finely. You will need 1/4th cup of finely grated ginger.
  • Take ½ teaspoon cream of tartar, 1/4th cup of lemon juice, and grated ginger in a large pot.
  • Add 4 large cups of water to the pot and boil the mixture.
  • After it has come to a full boil, turn the flame to medium and add sugar. Stir it well till the sugar has completely dissolved.
  • Now add 5 cups of cold water to the mixture in the pot and let it cool down to 23 degrees Celsius or 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of yeast to this and stir it well.
  • Place a kitchen towel on the pot to cover it well. Now you need to keep this pot in a dark and warm corner in the house for at least 3 hours. Post this the liquid mixture should smell yeasty and gingery.
  • Strain the liquid with a fine strainer in a pitcher. Make sure the liquid does not have any ginger in it.
  • Pour this brew in a clean plastic bottle. You can also use soda bottles or any other glass bottles. Fill the bottles leaving a little space at the top.

After this, all you need to do is keep the bottles in a warm and dark room for 3 days. About 2 to 3 times in the day loosen the cap of the bottles to relieve the pressure. Do not remove it completely. Once the fermentation is complete, you can add any fruit, syrup, liquor, or juice to customize the drink.

You can also enjoy it as it is. Be careful if you are storing it in a glass bottle as the carbonation might lead the bottles in exploding. So remove the fizz from the beer before storing it in glass bottles.

Enjoy your ginger beer!

How To Brew Your Own Beer

Brewing beer at home is fun and easy. You can save a lot of money if you are fond of enjoying good quality beer. You can follow our basic steps to enjoy your own beer at home.

To make your own beer you will need the following ingredients:

  • Hops
  • Malt extract in liquid or dry form
  • Specialty grains
  • Yeast depending on the kind of beer

All these ingredients are available in a DIY kit.

How To Brew Your Own Beer

First, you need to steep the grains. For this put the grains into a mesh bag or another teabag like bag and steep them for about 30 minutes in 2 gallons of hot water. Remove the bag from the pot and let the water drip out itself. You don’t have to squeeze the bag as it may cause the beer to get an astringent like flavor.

The malt extract needs to be added to this mixture and boiled once. The hop gives a flavor, aroma, and bitterness to the beer and hence is added at different intervals. The kit that you buy will spell out the time when you should add the hop. This boiled liquid is called wort and it needs to be cooled down as soon as possible after boiling. The best way to do so is by placing the pot in a sink filled with icy water. You can simultaneously stir it gently to aid the cooling process. Once the temperature is around 27 degree Celsius splash the wort to the fermenter.

Before fermentation starts, scoop out the hop and add more water to the liquid. Once the mixture is about five gallons add yeast. Depending on the yeast, you may need to pitch it. It is ideal to pitch the yeast so that it blooms and works faster. However, it is not necessary. Now air-lock the fermenter for minimized air exposure. Place it in a dark corner where the temperature remains consistent. After 24 hours the air-lock should start bubbling away. In case you don’t notice bubbling after 48 hours you may have a problem with the yeast.

After about a week, when you see the bubbling has slowed down leave the mixture for another week. Add dried malt extract or priming sugar that was in the kit. This will provide carbonation once you bottle the beer. Pour this brew in clean and sanitized bottles and cap them carefully. Store these bottles for a week or two at room temperature and then refrigerate them.

Enjoy this beer whenever you feel thirsty!
